Impact Lugo also tested his left calf strain with a bit of light jogging. He suffered the injury while making a start against the Royals on May 16 and still has some hurdles to clear, but the situation does appear to be progressing in the right direction -- maybe for a return sometime in early-to-mid June.

Impact That workout included a "pretty extensive" round of on-field batting practice, per Cassavell. Machado is with the Padres in Miami for their three-game series versus the Marlins, but the current expectation is that he won't be activated from the injured list until they return to San Diego for a homestand that runs from June 2-7. The star third baseman was diagnosed with a small fracture in his left hand back on May 15.

Impact There had been some speculation that Salas, who turns 17 this week, would open in the Arizona Complex League, but the Padres decided to expedite matters and send the catching phenom to full-season ball for his pro debut. Salas is obviously incredibly advanced on both sides of the ball, and if he has notable success as the youngest hitter at Single-A, his stock will continue to rise.

Impact Bogaerts was held out of the starting lineup Saturday at Yankee Stadium due to a lingering wrist issue and then went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his return to action Sunday.
